Commodity Solutions at RWE Supply & Trading GmbH (RWEST) manages customer coverage, origination, and sales across Europe, serving large industrials and municipalities.
Join the Business Development Europe Team, where we develop RWE's long-term commodity business and origination activities across Europe. We supply large customers with green power, gas, and energy solutions, supporting their energy transition via green PPAs, VERs, biogas, green hydrogen, and more.

We are now seeking a commercially driven team member to identify business opportunities through market, customer, and competitor research considering changing regulations. Your goal is to understand customer needs and how the landscape is evolving, especially in Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Your insights will shape our sales approach and will be the basis for commercially viable strategies for the future.

About the role

In your role as Business Development Manager you will focus on:

  • Implementing general market (data) analyses as well as competitor and customer evaluations with particular focus on Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • Analysing changes in supply and demand, considering forecasts for market developments and getting involved with product development; you will look into the demand side to establish a view of the (future) large customer segment and evolving commodities; you will look into the supply side, considering RWE's product portfolio as well as competitors' offerings, to identify gaps and refine the product scope.
  • Understanding the regulatory environment specifically for our large customer business in our core markets Germany and Benelux.
  • Supporting strategy development and creating business plans; you will develop the target picture for our business and support further growth.
  • Developing concrete concepts and identifying opportunities for promising, scalable as well as bespoke transactions based on your profound analyses; consequently, you will cleverly combine future customer needs with our portfolio opportunities and inhouse technical capabilities and turn them into commercially viable transactions.
  • Supporting internal stakeholder management and developing sales pitches.

Job requirements and experience

  • Degree in a relevant (quantitative) discipline (example given: business administration, economics, engineering).
  • At least 3 years of experience in energy commodities / renewable energy, preferably in the field of Business Development, Sales, Consulting or Origination within the European energy markets.
  • Profound knowledge of commodities such as power, gas and green PPAs, including expertise and interest in the applicable regulatory frameworks in the European energy markets with special focus on Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills combined with a commercial understanding and the ability to turn ideas into successful business concepts.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate analytical results and business concepts to stakeholders and higher management.
  • Ability to identify risks and opportunities in a complex and dynamic market and turn them into strategic concepts.
  • Proactive team player and good networker with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent command of English and German is essential.

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Knowledge of other relevant European languages is an advantage, in particular Dutch.
